PACKAGING EXPERT BAY AREA
Mattel Sports Packaging
Mattel created a Sports Line after acquiring Aviva Sports and Kransco, which owned brands including Wham-O, Hacky-Sack, Morey Boogie and Bodyboards, and Churchill Swim Fins. All brands that I connected with at some time in my life and that made working on them all the more fun and rewarding.
This captures the vibe of our packaging group pretty well!
The team all agreed there was a benefit to be able to grip the disc in package. We did that with all 3 lines at the time.
Jerry!!!
I scaled the package structure for all of the different frisbees to support the perceived value proposition. My First Frisbee was a really cool foam. The diecut hole in the blister allowed the consumer to feel the quality of the foam.
Looks like Frisbee was still using the same package structure I designed in 1996 years later for the Golf line of discs.
the factory: "You'll can't get that kind of printing on Kraft Corrugated, it won't go through a litho press." me: "Can you pre-print the Kraft Paper on a roll and make the board like single-face laminate?" the factory: "Huh!"
The clamshell may seem a little extreme but we needed to try to discourage theft. I did scale the clamshell down to reduce cost and especially limit the amount of plastic packaging. I had never seen a half-clamshell like that before.
"Rocked Tradition"! The Slo and Pro Sacks on were my concepts. I'm just glad the Pro wasn't sold as a 2-pack...
